UCLA硝酸片館藏之處，消防設備相當全完，並且放置於一間一間的小房間內隔離，萬一若火災，才不會殃汲其他片庫。 硝酸片（Nitrate -Base Motion Picture）的特性就是具有易燃性、不穩定性以及高溶解性。 攝氏4０度以上則會自燃， 最理想的保存溫度為攝氏4度 ，由於硝酸片材質上特有的化學質性， 使其有良好的物理韌性， 但卻有著相當低的化學穩定性， 故使其極易燃燒，故俗稱為“易燃片”。
館方接待人員示範硝酸片和醋酸片，同時著火時，硝酸片立刻燃燒的情況。
